2020

At the beginning of a new year, (and in this case, a new decade), I find myself wondering what God sees when He looks into what lies ahead for me. There are already several events and meetings and activities written onto my year planner, but in reality I have no control over how these will actually work out in the end! There is a beautiful old hymn we often used to sing in church when I was growing up. It speaks of the fact that the future is unknown, but that the One Who hold the future is the One Who also holds my hand.

The evidence of God’s faithfulness throughout my life has been something that has kept me steadfast in my walk with Him. I know without a doubt that I can count on Him to never leave me, to be the One I can run to when I’m overwhelmed, to be the One Who is enough in every circumstance I face. Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIVUK) says, “Because of the Lord ’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

This new year will have 366 days (being a leap year), and I have no certainty of what each day will bring, but because He has already gone before me and because He holds my future and holds my hand, I can count on my faithful God to unfold His beautiful plans for me day by day in 2020. I can count on the fact that there will be great days as well as awful days, but I can be certain of the truth that He knows the way I take, and that He cares enough about the details of my life that He will make all things work together for my good because I love Him, and am called according to His purposes. (Romans 8:28).

As we take the first steps into this new year, I pray this blessing for 2020 over each one reading my blog: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face towards you and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24‭-‬26 (NIVUK)
