After I chose my Blog name, “God Nuggets”, I realised that the word “nugget” may have a different meaning to different people. In fact, chicken nuggets – those small pieces of chicken covered in crumbs – would probably be what first comes to mind for me at first glance! So, I decided to consult Mr. Google’s on-line dictionary facility for an accurate description of this word, but to my dismay, I came upon some definitions I didn’t anticipate finding at all:
“nugget –
- a strange or silly person, or one who has done/just done something silly.” (Nope! Not what I had in mind)
- “a disliked person.” (Definitely not this one either!)
- “a potent flower (“bud”) of marijuana. Also called nugz, nuggy nugs, one-hit wonder…” (Oh dear! Now I was worried! Did I misunderstand the meaning of this word?)
Great was my relief when I saw that I had clicked on the “on-line SLANG dictionary.” Phew! That would explain it. 🙂
There were two definitions from the Cambridge English Dictionary which were closer to what I hoped to encapsulate with my “nuggets“:
- “a small roughly shaped piece, especially of gold” (metaphorically speaking of course), and…
- “something that a person has said or written that is very true or very wise. “
The nuggets I want to share in this blog is indeed based on a written Word that is very true, and very wise – The Bible, God’s Word. I am no theologian, but I don’t believe we need to be particularly educated and well-versed in Scripture in order for the Lord to reveal Himself and His character to us.
Each one who has a living relationship with God, or are truly seeking Him, will discover nuggets – small roughly shaped pieces of gold in the form of truth. As with gold, we may need to dig a little to discover them, but we can be sure that God loves to share His “gold” with anybody who would take the time to search for it.
There is a scripture in Psalm 25:14 (AMPC) which I love: “The secret [of the sweet, satisfying companionship] of the Lord have they who fear (revere and worship) Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its [deep, inner] meaning.”
God loves to share His “secrets” with us when we delight in Him and enjoy His “…sweet, satisfying companionship…” I guess finding God-nuggets could be like a treasure hunt of sorts. God’s Word has been given to us from Genesis to Revelation, but discovering what it says to me personally, THAT’S the exciting part for me! I don’t always come away from my quiet time with a bucketload of nuggets, but the anticipation is always there for what God may show me, and in the process I get to know His voice and learn to simply enjoy His Presence.
Why not make time today to dig a little for that special God-nugget that the Lord may want to share with you from His Word?

Love this!
